There are a number of uses for a printer large format. Generally people use them to make banners and posters for advertising. Others use this kind of printer to make banners for birthday parties and pretty much any other kind of function that may call for a banner or posters. The printer large format does have a few distinct advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages.
The biggest advantage with this kind of printer large format is that they are versatile. You can print anything from architectural drawings with all of their fine print and miniature details to posters and banners to much smaller scale printing. True, it is cheaper to print the smaller scale things on a small scale printer, but if you have no other option you can use your large format printer to do the printing.
Another big advantage is the quality of the prints that a printer large format will produce. Since the printer will be required to make really large images it generally runs on quite a high dpi, also known as dots per inch. This means that the quality and resolution of the output will be quite high.
The disadvantages.
The biggest problem with the printer large format is the cost of getting the printer in the first place. They do not come cheap. Most large format printers are used in an industrial or commercial setting which means that they have to be very durable and this makes them expensive.
Then there is the ink factor. The printer large format contains a large number of inks so that it can get the colours of the input just right. A shade or two’s difference makes a big difference on a large picture. It will also generally have to have its cartridges replaced more often than a regular printer because of the amount it will use to print each item that it needs to print.
So, although the printer large format has its place in the printing industry, that place is quite a small one because of the cost of running and buying the printer. It does produce great quality prints though.
